YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) - State parks in Ohio are filling up for the 2024 Solar Eclipse.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources will be keeping track online so people can know when parking lots are full. For instance, as of 10:50 a.m., Lake Loraine State Park parking in the Spillway lot was full as well as the beach lot and Lawrence Wood State Nature Preserve was at capacity.
The last total solar eclipse visible in Ohio was in 1806. The next total solar eclipse in Ohio will be in the year 2099.
Ohio State Parks with the best viewing in our area, according to ODNR are:
- Punderson - Watch party from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Mosquito Lake - Watch party on the beach from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- West Branch - Eclipse fishing experience from 10 am. to 11 a.m. Pinhole Viewer craft from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Eclipse watch party from 1:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Wingfoot Lake - Introduction to the Solar Eclipse at the Nature Center from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
- Pymatuning - Eclipse Fun Day at the nature center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eclipse watching at the Nature Center from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Geneva - Watch party from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Portage Lakes - Introduction to the Solar Eclipse at the Nature Tent from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Watch party from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
